Logan Square is said to have shaped up from what it was. It seems as though there are many “runaway” murders.
There was a 44 year old was shot in the head on Sunday in Logan Square.
The shooing took place at the 3000 block of George street which is El Rey Foods. El Rey Foods is a grocery store that specializes in Mexican foods.
The man that was killed was identified as Juan Rivera. He lived at the 2100 block North Keystone Avenue.

Hopefully with the new renovated condo conversions, restaurants, bars, and scenery in the Logan Square neighborhood, there will be less murders and the neighborhood will become safer.

Unfortunately, “shaping up” has meant displacing residents in favor of attracting a wealthy population for the neighborhood. The changes in Logan Square, while perhaps appealing from the outside, ignore more deeply-rooted problems. It seems the neighborhood has become the latest “beacon” of gentrification.

I agree. they are literally forcing people out because landlords are raising rent–raising it so much that the residents are not able to pay it. They are “gutting” these buildings and remodeling them. It is unfortunte because a lot of the residents have lived there for years. Since they are being forced to move within a specific amount of time, they are being forced to split up their families.

Yes I would agree with borh of your posts because the area will not shape up due to the transformation of buildings. But we can always think optimistic for the people of Logan Square.

Gentrification is so hard for communities like Logan Square. I don’t think people realize, with displaced families you also have school transfers for children, job loss, separation of family, separation from culture. It’s hard for me to watch a neighborhood like Logan Square gentrify because of its deeps Latino roots. They’ll lose that as condos continue to convert.
