Unknown City

It’s been a few days since the election and it still feels like the city is on cloud nine. My bosses were in great moods, my political science professors were in great moods (relative to non-election days when Obama has not recently become president elect and we are all talking politics), and my mom is uber-joyous. I’m thinking now is a good time to ask for that plane ticket for Christmas…obamaaaa-0061
For as many people walking around with the gigantic Obama smile on our faces, there are just as many walking around looking like someone just stole the mac & cheese right off their plate. Those people have found ways of venting, mainly through the facebook “status” application. Where Obama supporters have a status which reads something along the lines of “OBAMMMMAAAAAAAA,have my babies?” McCain supporters messages have more of a “Goodbye paycheck, hello socialism” tone. And unfortunately, I’ve seen many others that have taken a blatently racist tone. Personally, I thought that McCain’s concession speech was the best I’ve seen from him over the past two years. He appeared relaxed, he spoke eloquently, and you could tell that his message was genuine, that encouraging people to unite behind the new president elect was an honest plea.

People are hurt, I get that. But if people want to be taken seriously we need to express ourselves in a way that is dignified and just, not ignorant and bitter. There, I’m done preaching.

I totally agree with you! Everybody is in such a better mood it seems like. People are more friendly and quick to help othees (holding doors, etc). Hopefully it stays this way lol!!

I really enjoyed your post. I agree that Mccain’s speech was incredible and I thought he was very humble and genuine. I love that he said Obama would be his president too. It is really hard seeing people I know be so ignorant about Obama- they jump to conclusions and often pretend they know everything when they don’t.

I agree with your post. Even now people are just walking around like they have nothing that is bothering them.

On the other hand, there are also people that are still really mad and want to flee the country.

I saw the cloud nine highs all over too. People really were happy and excited about the country after this election. I did feel some of the opposite reactions, however – as I knew of a few small business owners who had stopped talking to family members who voted for Obama, another cancelled his holiday vacation to work – as his family will be on the beach over Christmas. And although people are excited now, reality will set in (not to be the debbie downer) soon and getting out of this economy is going to be a rough ride for everyone it seems.

Agreed, I just hope that we will all have some patience and realize that you no one can fix the economy, end a war, and overhaul a health care system in 90 days…not even Obama.

I definitely agree the effect is still lingering!!! We’re all so hopeful. Even David Letterman made a joke requesting Obama start now instead of waiting the months we have left!
