  Logan Square is said to have shaped up from what it was. It seems as though there are many “runaway” murders.

  There was a 44 year old was shot in the head on Sunday in Logan Square.

  The shooing took place at the 3000 block of George street which is El Rey Foods. El Rey Foods is a grocery store that specializes in Mexican foods.

  The man that was killed was identified as Juan Rivera. He lived at the 2100 block North Keystone Avenue.

  Hopefully with the new renovated condo conversions, restaurants, bars, and scenery in the Logan Square neighborhood, there will be less murders and the neighborhood will become safer.

  Community events are a great opportunity to meet new people and to network with people that have the same interests as you. People from all over the Chicagoland area attend these events in hopes of learning new things from them. The event that is popular in Logan Square is the farmers market.

   

  The farmers market is a yearly event that takes place every Sunday from June1 til October 26th from 10:00 A.M. til 3:00 P.M. The market took place at Logan Bvld. and Milwaukee Ave. near the Blue line stop.

  This event is filled with many different food vendors( http://www.logansquarefarmersmarket.org/vendor) and also information tables that deal with community organizations and local businesses that want to reach out to the locals.( http://www.logansquarefarmersmarket.org/communitytable)

  On October 5th, there were many streets that were closed to cars. The street was open to bicyclists, strollers, skateboards, etc.  The closures were from Fullerton to Madison and they were closed from 9 A.M. to 1 A.M. http://gapersblock.com/slowdown/archives/2008/10/26/#031521

  This seems as though it is a little to excessive. The streets should not have been closed down during the morning hours of people trying to get to their destination. The streets that were blocked off, for instance Fullerton, were main streets and it made people re-route their location. 

  I think that it benefitted some people that are not able to have a car. These people were able to ride in the street not worrying about a car coming and hitting and killing them. I feel that this was a good idea for people that can not drive, but for people that are in a hurry to get somewhere I feel that it was too excessive.

  This will be taking place again from 9 A.M.-1 P.M. from Garfield Park to Little Village on October 26.

  Ignacio Montano, age 15, was shot early summer. Him and his friend were talking at a street corner and someone was said to have shot him and his friend and then jumped into a waiting vehicle. One of the victims were listed in critical condition, and Montano was pronounced dead.  The murderer was predicted to be between the ages of 18 to 20. Police said that this shooting might have been gang related.

  There were more than 30,000 high school students participated in a rally in the stands of Soldier field cheering for more state funding for schools.  Students brought empty chairs on the field resembling the students that have been killed in gun violence. Jesse L. Jackson started a speech saying “Stop the guns, stop the drugs, stop the violence. Save the children.”

  The blue station at California and Milwaukee was renovated into a new and better looking station. The station used to have wooden floors, which will now be concrete floors which will make the walkway more sturdy. The customer service booth in the station will be fixed up along with the walls being painted.

  The construction of the station started on September 15th with the painting of the walls and was closed temporarily starting the 18th because they had to replace the floor. The construction stopped and the station opened back up on October 2nd.

  There also will be a new bus route in Logan Square. This bus route is connecting different parts of Logan Square to downtown Chicago.
