Never has the excitement been sucked out of so many people so fast than it has this week. Two Chicago baseball teams struggling to find a groove, could be heading home by Monday. Whether you were a fan or not, the excitement was so apparent all week it seemed almost tangible. Buildings displaying the team logos, hanging signs and flags with pride were just a few of the many changes. It made the week fun being able to see things like the Picasso statue in Daley Plaza wearing a Cubs hat. Monday could mark the first day of a return to normalcy. Newspaper fronts will now focus their attention on the upcoming election rather than a potential red-line series. Is there still a glimmer of hope for our hometown teams? Could both teams pull off what few have accomplished before? The Sox return to a coveted outdoor stadium, while the Cubs leave their “not so friendly confines”. This optimistic fan says we still have a pulse. That is the beauty of the game of baseball. Three wins in a row is far from impossible, and a game of momentum makes anything possible. If this isn’t the case, I will at least be grateful for the week of excitement. It was a change of pace from the same old routine. If the rest of the world really does have their eyes on Chicago, then lets rally the troops for one last push. Miracles do happen and with the way things have gone so far, it’s going to take two to keep the excitement alive.
