Recently, I have been lucky enough to intern for the CNN Chicago Bureau where I’ve had an amazing experience. I was able to work with producers, photojournalists, assignment editors, bureau chiefs, and reporters. I helped develop and produce stories, collect man on street interviews (MOS), and produce reporter live shots. I logged tapes, organized feeding of tape, willingly and happily answered phones, investigated possible stories, and organized the CNN video library. I was a runner for the Presidential Election and attended President Elect Obama’s Press Conference. I am more than grateful for the entire experience.

This video was the first televised news hologram done with Wolf Blitzer and Jessica Yellin. Yellin was stationed in Grant Park (Chicago) with the CNN Express Bus. I did not get to help with this project, but I was happy to be apart of the team when CNN made history.

This video is a package by reporter, Susan Roesgen. My job for this package was to pull video tape from the CNN library which they would use in this package. Also I was sent out to Skokie with photojournalist, Chris Davis, to interview the rabbi for this package. Susan gave me a general set of questions and I took it from there. Once the interview was done, I had to pick out three SOT’s (sound bytes) that I felt were newsworthy for Susan’s package. Chris and I quickly feed the tape to Atlanta where the package was successfully edited in time for air.

This video is an interview with Wolf Blitzer and Robert Gibbs, Obama Senior Advisor. Gibbs was stationed in the CNN/MSNBC Pool room at the Hyatt in Chicago. I was able to help with these interviews all day to make sure they went smooth.

CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux reports in Chicago. This is another example of what I was able to help out with.

I was stationed with Fuzz Hogan, CNN Chicago’s Bureau Chief, and Stephanie Kotuby, Senior Editorial Producer for The Situation Room, for most of the Election Coverage. Hogan and Kotuby were able to blog their experience throughout the CNN Election Coverage.

I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends love California Pizza Kitchen. Its an American style restaurant, which specializes in…well…pizza! American style pizza! So, what makes it unlike the traditional Italian Pizza? Pizzas like a “bbq chicken pizza” or a “thai chicken pizza”. They’re unlike the norm…but delicious.

When you make your trip to CPK…there are ways to order a healthier meal…let me give you your script:

“I would like a ___________ pizza FOR ONE”
For example: “a Margarita Pizza for one” or “a Sicilian Pizza With Crispy Thin Crust for one”
And you can eat the entire thing! Not a lot of people know you can order a pizza for one person at CPK. They would be happy to make it that way for you. If for some reason, they’re not accommodating (doubt it) eat three pieces instead of the six.

Pizzas to stay away from 😦

Vegetarian Pizza – 1260 calories for the entire pizza

Shrimp Scampi Pizza – 1318 calories for the entire pizza

Pizzas that can be ordered better 🙂

    Pepperoni Pizza

    Sausauge, Pepperoni, and Mushroom Pizza

Ask your server “can I have my pizza made with less meat and DO NOT add extra cheese to substitute the meat, please.”

Some other items that are great to order on the menu and will make your tummy happy:

1 Bowl of Smashed Pea and Barley Soup

    1 Bowl of Tortilla Soup

ANY salad…none of the salads at CPK are overly “bad” for you…just ask for the dressing on the side or ask for their fat free balsamic vinaigrette.

Do you crave a thick dessert, not some chacha “healthy fruit sorbet”? Ya, just bring on the brownie sundae…Thanks! No, seriously though, I just had the healthiest dessert/meal anyone could ever ask for.

    Nordstrom’s Espresso Bar

They didnt have the nutrition information, but I did ask what kind of yogurt and granola they use. They actually use Lowfat Vanilla Yogurt, Nonfat Granola, and Frozen Fruit. Um…Good Stuff!

All together the entire parfait is approximately 400 calories. Less than 3 grams of fat. 500mg of calcium. It’s a healthy, tasty, snack, lunch, or dessert.

For all those that LOVE sweets, who LOVE their morning pick-me-up, and who LOVE their late night settle-me-down, this is your Candy in a Cup experience…

My first experience with Teavana was in Woodfeild Shopping Center, a suburb of Chicago. I just had finished lunch and had a craving for chocolate or sweets, but I didnt want to add more calories to my day by getting a coffee drink or eating chocolate. SO I came across this Teavana store. It is a very earthy, colorful, artsy story. Usually, there are samples of the tea to taste. My first tasting was Rooibos Chai Tea mixed with MateVana Herbal Tea…um…wow. Literally, Candy in a Cup. That is all I have to say.

This is just a simple description of the MateVana Tea, so you can get a better idea of what why I am so enthusiastic about this tea.

“A deliciously smooth herbal tea that is perfect for coffee lovers. It does contain caffeine, but many people have a different reaction to this stimulant since it is blended with the other natural xanthines found in Mate (theophylline and theobromine). Together they create energy without jitteriness or addictive tendencies. This tea is also a wonderful diet tea, since it curbs hunger.”

SO FAR: my favorite teas here are:

Rooibos Chai Tea + MateVana Herbal Tea

    Pistachio Apple Pie Tea

I provided you with the website so you can pick the Candy in a Cup that best suits your taste buds.

Remember, the healthiest Candy you can get. No Calories, Antioxidants, Healthy Benefits, Appetite Suppressant, you name it, its in these teas! I hope you enjoy! 🙂

“I cant keep going out to eat, I have no money…and I can’t imagine how unhealthy that is!” Ohh, stop it! You can! Even places you never thought would be ok…

    Tuesday: $.35 Wings

Wednesday: Kids Night $1.99 Kids Meals, $.50 Legs

    Thursday: $.60 Boneless Wings

    Meal Option #1:

Side Salad no cheese/no croutons (your choice of dressing), 6 Buffalo Wild Wings (your choice of sauce), and a Diet Coke

This ENTIRE MEAL is 460 calories, 30 grams of fat, and 32 grams protein

    Meal Option #2:

Six Boneless Wings (your choice of sauce), Side of Steamed Broccoli with Parmesan Cheese, and an Iced Tea with a Lemon

This ENTIRE MEAL is 420 calories: 28 grams of fat: 29 grams of protein

    Meal Option #3:

One order of Naked Tenders (your choice of sauce), One order of Buffalo Chips (no cheese)

This ENTIRE MEAL is 397 calories, 7 grams of fat, 33 grams of protein

    Meal Option #4:

Naked Chicken Salad with Fat Free Ranch

This ENTIRE MEAL is 220 calories and 5 grams of fat

SOoo…this is not bad at all! You can eat an entire meal, and be FULL until your next meal (from the protein)! AND this is only 1/4 of an average person’s daily caloric intake! Pretty cool huh!?

Don’t let the “healthier sounding options” trick you! For example, one order of McDonald’s Chicken Selects® Premium Chicken Breast Strips (5 pieces) which is 660 calories and 40 grams of fat!

This is not to say that you can not order healthier options at McDonald’s…we’ll get to that soon enough! 🙂
